Anti-Semitic Accusations by Pro-Palestinian Organization

Marseille from our correspondent

Far from its normal activities in support of the Palestinian cause, on March 20 the Association médicale franco-palestinienne de Marseille (AMFP) published an openly anti-Semitic text in its news letter that stirred the anger of some its recipients and lead the Association France Palestine Solidarité (of which AMFP is an affiliate) to condemn the “explicitly anti-Semitic content” and to disavow its publication. It’s not possible. There’s no excuse. The guy at AMFP who translated the text has quit and we have suspended the Marseille group’s referrals to our association,” said Bernard Ravenel, president of the France Palestine Solidarité association. Members of the Marseille association did not answer Libération calls seeking comment.

Colloquium. The text’s author, Israel Shamir, who describes himself on his Web site as a Russian Israeli, had already made waves during a 2001 UNESCO colloquium in Paris. He boasts of this in the text: “When I alluded to the ‘media’s Jewish magnates,’ I realized that the audience’s hearts had skipped more than one beat.” This time, he goes much further, by maintaining that “organized Jewry” were responsible for the war in Iraq, as it was, he says, for the Second World War.

“Control”. For Shamir, the “Jews of France secretly purchased and subverted the French media over many years to distort national debate and rush an unprepared France into the horrible and completely pointless Second World War.” And he asks, “Is it completely unbelievable that American Jews should have secretly taken control of their national media and today they should be in the process of rushing the United States into an horrible and totally pointless third world war?

To denounce the “inscrutable secret of Jewish power,” Shamir published a detailed list of the “media’s Jewish magnates” in the United States and demanded they be prosecuted under anti-trust legislation. For him, “American patriotic forces” must “act now”: “They have an enemy but this enemy is not in Iraq.” It’s the great internal enemy that anti-Semitic literature has been feeding on for eons.

Logorrhea. These completely unambiguous words were published without compunction by the AMFP in a letter that it distributes via email to more than 6,800 recipients. Word for word, the translator Marcel Charbonnier was privy to its anti-Semitic logorrhea which apparently did not bother him. Today that puts him at risk of criminal sanction.
