"On June 4, 2001 - three days after a Palestinian suicide bomber killed 21 young Israelis and wounded over 100 others at a disco, in the midst of a unilateral Israeli ceasefire - the [Spanish] liberal daily Cambio 16 published (on page 3) a cartoon of a hook-nosed Sharon, wearing a yarmulke on his head, sporting a swastika inside a star of David on his chest, and proclaiming: 'At least Hitler taught me how to invade a country and destroy every living insect.'" Translation of a "scientific" article on Bio-Warfare by Dr. Husniya Hassan Moussa, published in the the November issue of the Egyptian science magazine Al-'Ilm: "The cases of anthrax infection in the U.S. emerged simultaneously with the beginning of the American war against Afghanistan. News coming from Afghanistan mentions symptoms of a strange disease… causing fever, headaches, and hemorrhaging. ... Also, Jewish tourists infected with AIDS are traveling around Asian and African countries with the aim of spreading the disease. ... It is no coincidence that the U.S. is the only member of the United Nations that has not signed the agreement on punishment for the collective annihilation of people… Israel continues to use germ warfare to destroy the Palestinian people on its occupied land, while it challenges the international community."

"Saudi Government Daily: The Jews are Taking Over the World" (Special Dispatch No. 321, MEMRI, 2001/12/28)
Translation of an anti-Semitic article from the Saudi daily Al-Watan by Abdallah Aal Malhi entitled "The Jewish organizations are implementing their strategic hellish plan to take over the world.": "At the end of the last century, the Jewish organizations consolidated a hellish plan to take over the world by sparking revolutions or taking control of the keys to governments in various countries, first and foremost the US and Russia. ... The arrogance and tyranny of the Jews, who manage to hide it from the Western public, has reached such proportions that anyone who talks about them, their hegemony, and their racism knows that he will pay a high price. ... So as to prove our words, we will not address Jewish control of the media in Western countries, primarily in the US… but we will give an example of the Jews' infiltration and control of the top positions in the American administration. This control aroused astonishment in the days of the Clinton administration…: Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, FBI chief George Tenet, Defense Secretary William Cohen, Clinton's national security advisor Sandy Berger – all Jews. Through this infiltration of the various American administrations, and through controlling the media and money, the Jews impose their agenda on the other peoples, and the Jewish sense of superiority, whose aim is to recruit the peoples and their resources for the good of Jewish interests and their racist state Israel, remain unchanged."

"Brazen anti-Semitism" (Uri Dan, The Jerusalem Post, 2001/12/20)
"For elderly Jews, who were saved from the clutches of the Nazis and the Frenchmen who collaborated with them, and who are living in Paris, the attacks of the French media against Israel remind them of the anti-Semitic publications during the Vichy regime.
In Brussels, a similar, and perhaps even graver, anti-Semitic offensive is being waged. The Belgian media are frequently even more venomous and primitive than those in France in their attacks on Israel and Ariel Sharon's government. ... The leftist French weekly Novel Observateur recently printed a blood libel copied from a British newspaper, according to which IDF soldiers were raping Palestinian women to cause their murder by members of their families, because the family honor had been sullied."

"Islamists overplay their hand but London salons don't see it" (Barbara Amiel, The Daily Telegraph, 2001/12/17)
"Recently, the ambassador of a major EU country politely told a gathering at my home that the current troubles in the world were all because of "that shitty little country Israel". "Why," he asked, "should the world be in danger of World War Three because of those people?" At a private lunch last month, the hostess - doyenne of London's political salon scene - made a remark to the effect that she couldn't stand Jews and everything happening to them was their own fault. When this was greeted with a shocked silence, she chided her guests on what she assumed was their hypocrisy. "Oh come on," she said, "you all feel like that." Once that remark would have cost her licence as a serious political hostess, but clearly she believes the zeitgeist is blowing her way."

"Hate Hits the Mainstream" (Abraham Cooper, Los Angeles Times, 2001/12/16)
"Witness the new series airing on the state-run satellite television network of the Arab gulf state Abu Dhabi. Facing stiff competition for 25 million homes in the Arab and Muslim world from satellite network Al Jazeera, Abu Dhabi TV has decided to seek its market share by launching "Plots of Terror." ... Between ads for Procter & Gamble shampoo, chocolate and computers for kids, viewers are introduced to an Israeli leader depicted as a vampire who craves the blood of Arab children and markets "Dracu-cola." The "prime minister" is shown personally leading the massacre of helpless prisoners and, in the most horrific scene of all, is shown overseeing the tossing of Arab babies into a bonfire. ... Ominously, the Abu Dhabi series reflects the mainstreaming of anti-Semitism across the Arab world." (Note: The original link is down, but the article can be found at standwithus.com)

"Why Europe Hates Israel" (Bret Stephens, The Wall Street Journal, 2001/12/01)
"On Wednesday a Belgian court heard arguments from lawyers representing 23 Palestinians, survivors of the 1982 Sabra and Chatilla massacres near Beirut, that Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon should be prosecuted in Belgium for crimes against humanity. ... More than a half century after the Holocaust, a Europe awakened to the importance of human rights is looking to punish the leader of the world's only Jewish state for a crime that was actually committed by a Christian Lebanese militiaman, later employed by the Syrian regime of Hafez Assad. And yet blame for the massacres seems to be apportioned to Mr. Sharon alone."

"His grasp of spin is chilling..." (Julia Magnet, The Daily Telegraph, 2001/11/16)
"Few Westerners have seen Osama bin Laden's recruitment video in full. So what did Julia Magnet, a young Jewish New Yorker, make of it?": "This is a great propaganda film - the kind that you can't get out of your head. Bin Laden's story of Muslim subjugation turning to resistance is so effective that I barely need my transcripts. He uses the most sophisticated western film-making techniques: it's as if Guy Ritchie, Sylvester Stallone and Spielberg have banded together to make jihad, the movie. ... In slow motion, and in time to the music, Israeli soldiers beat two women with sticks, until one falls to ground. The soldiers carry off screaming men, as if they are so much rubbish. Then, they strike a little boy with such force that he crumples to the ground. These images, and similar ones, are repeated over and over, until the violence seems unending. ... Throughout, he is screaming tearfully over the music: "Your sister goes to bed honourable and wakes up violated, raped by the Jews." As we see images of beatings for the umpteenth time, all he can do is wail - a curiously effective cry of impotence and grief."

"The new Islamic fascism" (Robert S. Wistrich, The Jerusalem Post, 2001/11/16)
"There is something apocalyptic about the sheer scale and seismic shock effect of the Twin Towers massacre in New York. The Islamic terrorist perpetrators of this act, like the Nazis and fascists 60 years ago, speak a language of unquenchable hatred for the Jewish people, for America and the West, indeed for civilization itself. They, too, enjoy - at least in the Muslim world - the acclamation of significant sectors of the population. ... The conspiracy theory at its heart, which links plutocratic capitalism, international freemasonry, Zionism, and Marxist Communism, is almost identical with the mythical structure of Nazi anti-Semitism. For contemporary jihadists, a "Judaized" America and Israel, together with heretical, secular Muslim regimes are the godless spearhead of these dark occult forces that seek to destroy Islam and undermine the cultural identity of Muslim believers." "Yasser Arafat, Zionist - A new history of victimization" (Steven Menashi, National Review, 2001/11/08)
"Arafat effected this dramatic shift in public opinion by recasting the image of the Palestinian national movement. The PLO stopped presenting itself as a guerilla army, aimed at wiping Israel off the map, and instead adopted the pose of a humanitarian effort aimed at protecting a beleaguered minority, the Palestinian Arabs, and establishing a homeland for a dispossessed people. In short, Arafat presented the Palestinians to the world as Jews. Arafat's drive to project an appearance of Palestinian sympathy with the victims of terror in New York and Washington is part of his long-term strategy is for the Palestinians to imitate the Jews — not the Jews of historical record, but the sinister Jews of the Palestinian imagination, who fabricated a history of oppression and won global sympathy, and who arrived in a foreign land under a banner of peace and then dislocated its inhabitants by conquest."

"The Uncomfortable Question of Anti-Semitism" (Jonathan Rosen, The New York Times Magazine, 2001/11/04)
"And yet what I kept hearing in those first days in the aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center is that it was our support of Israel that had somehow brought this devastation down on us. It was a kind of respectable variant of the belief that the Mossad had literally blown up the World Trade Center. ... But since most of the players in the Middle East do not accept the existence of Israel, since ''solving the Mideast crisis'' would for them entail a modern version of Hitler's final solution, the phrase takes on weird and even sinister overtones when it is blandly employed by well-intentioned governments calling for a speedy solution. And this Orwellian transformation of language is one of the most exasperating and disorienting aspects of the campaign against Israel. It has turned the word ''peace'' into a euphemism for war. ... What happened on Sept. 11 is proof, as if we needed it, that people who threaten evil intend evil. This comes with the dawning awareness that weapons of mass destruction did not vanish with the Soviet Union; the knowledge that in fact they may pose a greater threat of actually being used in this century, if only in a limited fashion, is sinking in only now. ...
The demonizing language that is used about Israel in some of the European press, and about Jews in the Arab press, is reminiscent of Europe in the 1930's. I grew up thinking I was living in the post-Holocaust world and find it sounds more and more like a pre-Holocaust world as well."

"New Prejudices for Old - The Euro press and the Intifada" (Tom Gross, National Review, 2001/11/01)
An excellent exposé of the anti-Israeli - and sometimes anti-Semitic - bias of European media in the reporting of the Israel-Palestinian conflict: "On June 4, 2001 - three days after a Palestinian suicide bomber killed 21 young Israelis and wounded over 100 others at a disco, in the midst of a unilateral Israeli ceasefire - the [Spanish] liberal daily Cambio 16 published (on page 3) a cartoon of a hook-nosed Sharon, wearing a yarmulke on his head, sporting a swastika inside a star of David on his chest, and proclaiming: 'At least Hitler taught me how to invade a country and destroy every living insect.'"

"With the ground offensive underway, the 'propaganda war' heats up" (U.S. Department of State, 2001/10/24)
A survey of foreign media reactions between October 15-24. Here's an example of anti-Semitism from Saudia Arabia: "Since the Zionist terrorism is being inflicted on the U.S. daily, it blocks the improvement of American-Arab-Muslim relationships. We know quite well that the American media is the first target of Zionist terrorism. This influence on the media sometimes even works against American interests. Therefore, we are not surprised by the current American media campaign against the Kingdom...but for this campaign to reach Congress, the source of American domestic and foreign policy, indicates that the Zionist Anthrax has penetrated the American body to the bone." (Abha-based, moderate Al-Watan held (2001/10/23))

"It is a clash of civilizations" (Robert S. Wistrich, The Jerusalem Post, 2001/10/19)
"The fact is that America and Israel have long been twinned as the "Great" and the "Little" Satan by a resurgent Islam. Since the Islamic Revolution in Iran of 1979 (a pivotal event in 20th century history), both have been demonized and targeted as the source of all evil in the world and the greatest single danger to the Muslim umma (nation). ... Like most of the Western establishment, many Jews (and even some Israelis) are equally reluctant to grasp how profoundly anti-Semitic the Muslim radicals - and indeed the bulk of the Muslim world (by no means only the Arabs) - have become as a result of more than two decades of relentless intoxication by their medias, by their own intellectuals and religious as well as political leaderships." (UPDATE: The original link is down, but the article can be found here, via the Wayback Machine.)

"Idiocy Watch #6" (The New Republic, 2001/10/19)
The close affinity between antisemitic racists such as David Duke and some forms of Muslim anti-Americanism is shown in these examples: "I read the article by David Duke and I'm not going to deny that I agreed with some of its content.... If I had known his history I would not have sent it out. If the article was written by somebody else I would've still sent it out. I feel like the article is valid. I don't feel like whether the article is anti-Semitic is something I need to explain." - Nadeen Al-jijakli, president of the Arab Students Union at New York University, quoted by Washington Square News explaining why she distributed an article by David Duke over the Internet.
... "The primary reason we are suffering from terrorism in the United States is because our government policy is completely subordinated to a foreign power: Israel and the efforts of worldwide Jewish Supremacism.... Israel is the only winner in this tragedy." - The aforementioned David Duke article, September 17." "Syrian defense minister blames WTC, Pentagon attacks on Israel" (Arieh O'Sullivan, The Jerusalem Post, 2001/10/19)
"Syrian Defense Minister Mustafa Tlass has blamed the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center on Israel. At a meeting in Damascus last week with a delegation from the British Royal College of Defense Studies, Tlass said the Mossad planned the ramming of two hijacked airliners into the WTC's towers as part of a Jewish conspiracy. He also told the British visitors that the Mossad had given thousands of Jewish employees of the WTC advance warning not to go to work that day. ... Historian Richard Levy, an expert on anti-Semitism at the University of Illinois in Chicago, said such conspiracy theories have flourished after years during which Arab governments have encouraged crude Jewish conspiracy theories. "They have encouraged their peoples to explain politics and history by means of myth, lie, and fear. This sort of demagogy will come back to bite them," he said."

"The American attack against Afghanistan is terrorism…" (MEMRI, Special Dispatch No. 288, 2001/10/17)
An interview with the Egyptian Sheikh Muhammad Al-Gamei'a, the Al-Azhar University representative in the U.S. and Imam of the Islamic Cultural Center and Mosque of New York City, who returned to Egypt after September 11. Keep in mind that he is one of the leading Muslim leaders in the United States while reading his virulent antisemitic and anti-American ramblings: "During my conversations with this group, it became clear to me that they knew very well that the Jews were behind these ugly acts, while we, the Arabs, were innocent, and that someone from among their people was disseminating corruption in the land. Although the Americans suspect that the Zionists are behind the act, none has the courage to talk about it in public. ... You see these people (i.e. the Jews) all the time, everywhere, disseminating corruption, heresy, homosexuality, alcoholism, and drugs. [Because of them] there are strip clubs, homosexuals, and lesbians everywhere. They do this to impose their hegemony and colonialism on the world."

"Shooting snakes while supporting snake farms" (Don Feder, TownHall, 2001/10/15)
"'The Palestinian-Israeli problem is the cause of all violence and chaos,' says Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah. He's right. If it weren't for the Zionist entity, Pakistani terrorists wouldn't be blowing up government buildings in Kashmir, Sudan wouldn't be committing genocide against the nation's Christians, and Algeria's civil war would have ended years ago."

"Half of Pakistanis believe Israel behind US terrorist attacks" (hindustantimes.com, 2001/10/14)
An article on the results of a poll by Gallup commissioned by Newsweek: "The poll showed 48 percent of Pakistanis believe Israel carried out the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon near Washington, compared to 12 percent who blame Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden.
It said 25 percent of people polled believe a US group carried out the attacks, which killed more than 5,000 people, while five percent blame the Palestinians. ... Only three percent sympathised with the United States in the conflict, compared to 87 percent with Afghanistan's Taliban Islamic militia, and 75 percent opposed the use of Pakistani airfields by US forces. Bin Laden, the Afghanistan-based Islamic militant accused by the United States of masterminding the September 11 attacks, is viewed by 82 percent as a "mujahid" or freedom fighter, while just six percent consider him a terrorist. ... A Newsweek statement said Gallup Pakistan polled 978 adults across the country on October 11 and 12. It said the survey had a margin of error of three to four percentage points."

"On the road from Durban racism and terror converge" (Shimon Samuels, Haaretz, 2001/10/10)
"The vacuum of post-Communism was filled by a coalition of so-called "anti-globalization" human rights and Islamic groups that hold fundamentalist world views and a pathological contempt for America and those who share its values. ... ...the moral justifiers [of hate] exposed themselves in the Durban process, for it was here that "anti-racism" and terrorism converged, endorsed by positions of the principal human rights organizations. ... So-called distinctions drawn between "anti-Zionism" and "anti-Semitism" were forever effaced when "Third World" demonstrators on Friday afternoon forced the closure of the Jewish Center, while distributing "The Protocols of Zion" chanting "Hitler didn't finish the job." ... The United States and Israel drew a red line, by their departure, for Europeans, Canadians and Australians to belatedly enter the breach and fend off Islamo-Arab extremism in the final documents. But the atmosphere had been poisoned and deep, almost geological, hate-lines exposed." (See also: "Anti-Semitism at the United Nations: The World Conference Against Racism Becomes a World Conference For Racism" (Anne Bayefsky, Justice, from the Autumn 2001 issue))

"At home with the Taliban" (Asra Q. Nomani, Salon.com, 2001/10/10)
An interesting report from inside the Taliban "White House" in Pakistan: "I ask what [Shaheen] thinks about bin Laden, and his alleged involvement in the Sept. 11 attacks. "If he is involved, then many of the Taliban will not accept him," he says. ... He wonders aloud about the "Yahudhi" conspiracy, the Jewish conspiracy, that underlies the doubts of many Muslims about bin Laden's guilt. In Urdu, he says he prays to find the aslee mujrim, the culprit behind the Sept. 11 transformation of reality. He rattles off as fact a rumor that has taken strong hold over here: That 4,000 Jews didn't report to work at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11." (See also "4,000 Jews, 1 Lie - Tracking an Internet hoax" (Bryan Curtis, Slate, 2001/10/05))

"Anti-Semitism at the United Nations: The World Conference Against Racism Becomes a World Conference For Racism" (Anne Bayefsky, Justice, from the Autumn 2001 issue)
With three articles on The Durban Conference, including Bayefsky's address at the Commission on Anti-Semitism in Durban: "This Conference is supposed to be about combating racism. Instead it has been seized by those who foment it. It has become a global forum for racism. A racist anti-racism conference. ... Anti-Semitism is not merely an historical phenomenon. One need only come to the World Conference on Racism to watch it metastasize. In the draft documents of both the NGO and Government Conference:
...
• Language likening the Jewish State to an apartheid regime thereby criminalizing its purpose and its very essence.
• Language containing wild accusations - such as genocide or ethnic cleansing - directed only to Israel, virtually ignoring the other 190 States of the UN.
... Unfortunately, the UN has laid the groundwork for such an assault for decades. ... And where are the world's leaders of civil society? Where are the NGOs who claim anti-racism is their cri de couer? Silencing speakers who remind them of the victims of anti-Semitism in all its forms as in meetings yesterday? Donning free T-shirts ridiculing Jewish self-determination? Harassing Jewish registrants to this Conference?"

"4,000 Jews, 1 Lie - Tracking an Internet hoax" (Bryan Curtis, Slate, 2001/10/05)
"It is an article of faith in many Muslim countries that Israel was behind the attack on the World Trade Center, with many citing as their evidence a "news report" that 4,000 Israelis called in sick from their jobs at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. The allegation has now appeared on scores of Web sites and bulletin boards, has been reproduced in e-mails too numerous to count, and has run as fact in newspapers and news broadcasts in the Middle East. Where did this charge originate, and what path did it take around the world? ... According to Nexis and the Google search engine, the first mention of Israeli involvement in the attacks came in a Sept. 17 report on Lebanon's Al-Manar Television. The Los Angeles Times reports that the terrorist group Hezbollah has free access to Al-Manar's airwaves, and the station's Web site claims that the station exists to 'stage an effective psychological warfare with the Zionist enemy.'
" (Note: Here's an early example of this "news report": "4000 Israeli employees in WTC escape" (paknews.com, 2001/09/19))

"Bin Laden Recruits With Graphic Video" (Michael Powell, The Washington Post, 2001/09/27)
"Shot at training bases in Afghanistan, and drawing on powerful and horrific news images of soldiers beating and killing Muslim women and children, the two-hour video offers a window into the worldview of the man who has led his followers into a war with the United States. ... The film opens with a Holocaust-like montage of horrors perpetrated on Muslims.
Dead boys, eyes vacant, stare up. Children scream, dirt is tossed on a coffin, a woman's face is soaked with blood. And, repeatedly, footage shows Israeli soldiers hitting children and shooting at civilians. An Israeli soldier is shown putting a dead baby into a garbage bag after a wartime attack on a Lebanese village. The film refers to Jews as "dogs" and "pigs." The faces of Clinton and members of the Saudi royal family are often superimposed. The message, Bulliet notes, is simple: The Jews are killing your men, women and children, backed by complicit Arab rulers and the United States."

"Improbable theories have wide acceptance" (Colin Nickerson, Boston Globe, 2002/09/23)
A report from Pakistan: "In these dangerous days in a desperate land, rumors are flying thick, fast, and outlandish. Except they are believed deeply and widely across the Islamic world. Nowhere more so than in this South Asian nation caught in the whirlwind of Western outrage at the suicide attacks in New York and Washington. Take the tale of ''the 4,000,'' reported even in the mainstream Pakistani press as a theory at least as plausible as the notion of murderous hijackings orchestrated by an exiled Saudi Arabian multimillionaire on the lam in Afghanistan, which lies next door to Pakistan. Just before dawn on Sept. 11, so the story goes, 4,000 Jews working in the World Trade Center literally got a wake-up call from agents of Mossad, the Israeli spy agency. Or maybe it was the CIA. Or perhaps some shadowy cabal of international bankers and American arms manufacturers. ... But why on earth would Israel want to hijack airliners flying the skies of its close ally, destroy the World Trade Center, and smash the Pentagon? That's a no-brainer to Sartaj Qadari, who sells tea from a pushcart along a busy Islamabad thoroughfare. Turning down the newscast blaring from his battery radio, Qadari was happy to relate the street buzz. ''Israel was badly embarrassed by the uprising in Palestine, all those terrible pictures of Muslim people shot dead,'' he said. 'So they organize these actions to turn away attention. Now all the media men come to Pakistan, and who hears of Gaza or the West Bank? Mossad is sly, very sly.'''

"The perpetrators of the attacks are not Arabs or Muslims" (Special Dispatch No. 270, MEMRI, 2001/09/20)
Translations of texts by Arab columnists which discusses the identities of the perpetrators of the terror attacks: "I have a sneaking suspicion that George W. Bush was involved in the operation of September 11, as was Colin Powell." (Samir Atallah, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat). "What happened is, in my opinion, the product of Jewish, Israeli, and American Zionism, and the act of the great Jewish Zionist mastermind that controls the world's economy, media, and politics…" (Ahmad Al-Muslih, Al-Dustour). (See also "British pro-Syrian journalist Patrick Seale: Suicide attacks are immoral but highly effective; the terrorists sought a 'balance of terror' with the US" (Special Dispatch No. 271, MEMRI, 2001/09/20) and "Lebanese professor: It is permissible to rejoice over 'the penetrating of the bastion of American colonialism'; 'Everyone gloated at the misfortune of the American administration, while its leaders scrambled to find a place to hide'" (Special Dispatch No. 272, MEMRI, 2001/09/20))

"War to the death between America and Islamic terrorists" (Daniel Johnson, The Daily Telegraph, 2001/09/12)
"Let there be no mistake: global Islamic terrorism is rooted in global anti-Semitism. This was, in many ways, the most vicious blow aimed at the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Though the victims yesterday were Americans, the chief target was what the perpetrators would call international Jewry. ... As with suicide terrorism, anti-Semitism is unfortunately endemic in the Middle East, despite the fact that Arabic and Hebrew are both semitic languages. This anti-Semitism often still takes the crudest form, drawing on every scrap of discredited mumbo-jumbo since the Protocols of the Elders of Zion."
